ABOUT RETRO JORDAN V 5 BASKETBALL SHOES

Nike Air Jordan basketball shoe was first created by Peter Moore and its design concept could be characterized as an "out of the box" design. Prior to the Nike Air Jordan, all basketball shoes were white so the loud black and red styling of Jordan 1s was met with fierce resistance from the NBA league.

The NBA banned Michael Jordan basketball shoes from the league to demonstrate their objection to this bold design concept. This led to controversy between Jordan and the NBA League. Michael protested by wearing Jordan 1s to each of his basketball games and the league fought back by issuing Jordan fines of up to $5,000 a game.

Nike fought to keep Jordan 1s on Michael's feet by covering the fines so that they could get the exposure that the NBA games brought the brand. This controversy and Jordan's magnificent playing statistics served to make the Nike Air Jordan line a household name in America and around the world.

After 1986-87 Slam Dunk Competition, the Jordan Logo was upgraded to the now familiar Jumpman Logo that is so well known today. The public was slow to respond to Air Jordan 3 because of its high retail price. The designers Peter Moore and Rob Strasser decided to branch out on their own to start their own company and this ushered in a new era for the struggling brand.

Nike hired Tinker Hatfield to breathe new life into Nike Air Jordan shoe line. He made the unprecedented decision to hold discussions with Michael Jordan and get his input into the design of the shoe. This new approach led Nike to design matching apparel with the shoes. Michael Jordan had significant input into the design of Air Jordan 3s and this led to skyrocketing popularity for these basketball shoes.

The Jordan line became its own brand of Nike and Hatfield designed all the ensuing models of Jordans released including the most popular Air Jordan 5s. The success of the Jordan line (Jordan 4s, Jordan 5s up to Jordan 21s) is based on the life, hobbies, cars and ideas of Michael Jordan. There's now speculation that the last Jordan in the line maybe Jordan 23s in honor of Michael Jordan and his retirement from the game of basketball.
